Periodo: Septiembre – Noviembre 2012

Proyecto: Opus 2012

Period: September – November 2012

Project: Opus 2012

The project links through music and staging, the discourse on the state of the nation delivered by Barack Obama in January of this year with the Mozart opera Don Giovanni.

During the speech, that lasted just over an hour, seventy-four cheers for the speaker were recorded. The artist recalled that opera is the only stage shows where the audience is free to express their satisfaction through spontaneous applause. From this parallelism Juanli Carrión was commissioned to translate into Italian five of the themes in the speech of President Obama and integrate them into the score of the second professional singers performed act of Don Giovanni for this.

The vocal performance has already occurred, in the desert of Real de Catorce. It has been recorded photographically and on video, under the harsh sun and under the stars at night. With Nightlife video graphic record was created a stage in which the movement of the celestial sphere was observed to accompany the future interpretation of the opera.By contrast the spectacle of political discourse with the transit of the Milky Way, Opus 2012 facing the anthropocentric microcosm of modern society with the sublime macrocosm of the universe. It is a reflection on the shallowness of political life in the context of our current democracies and the kind of relationship we have with the figures of power.
